Church of the Poor…  is actually a double winner because it was also a finalist in Spirituality Category.

From Elders to Children, a co-publication of ISA with the Maryknoll Environmental Sanctuary in Baguio City, was also a finalist this year, this time in the Children’s Category.

The five books of Bro. Karl Gaspar, CSsR. published by ISA contributed to

his being the Lifetime Achievement Awardee for this year, the first time that the Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards  gave to a non-Jesuit awardee.

The ISA publications  cited are: To be Poor and Obscure: A Spiritual Sojourn of a Mindanaon (2004); Mystic and Wanderers in the Land of Perpetual Departures (2008); The Masses are Messiah: Contemplating the Filipino Soul (2010); Desperately Seeking God’s Saving Action: Yolanda Survivors’ Hope Beyond Heartbreaking Lamentations (2014). This book garnered 2 awards from the Cardinal Sin Book awards and the Catholic Mass Media Awards namely: Best in Spirituality and best in Ministry; and Panagkutay: Anthropology & Theology Interfacing in Mindanao Uplands (The Lumad Homeland) (2017).

The Jaime Cardinal Sin Book Awards is a project under the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).
