Vision, Mission and Goal
The ISA Library exists to serve the educational and research objectives of the Institute of Spirituality in Asia. Its vision is anchored on the provision of a relevant collection of resources for the scientific study of spirituality from a multi-disciplinary approach.
Hence, the ISA Library envisions to be a prime center for the search and research of the different notions and realms of spirituality and faith traditions in the Philippines and in Asia. It has a core mission to serve the needs of the institute and to promote and develop a culture of research in the field of Spirituality.
Therefore, ISA Library strives to work out the following goals:
Provide a space for researchers and students to support their inquiry, investigation, report, survey and similar endeavors in the field of Spirituality and similar academic disciplines;
Offer services to support and assist researchers in their projects or studies by providing a comprehensive range of materials in the field of Spirituality.
Brief History
The Institute of Spirituality in Asia, formerly known as the Center for Spirituality – Manila (CSM), is an academic and research-based institute. It was created in response to the demand for a research center for spirituality in Manila, particularly given the country’s lack of such an institution at the time. Additionally, the institute emerged as a result of the fact that the study of spirituality is central to the Carmelite charism. A specialized library was subsequently built to help the institute achieve and fulfill its mission. It houses selected copies of publications devoted to spirituality and other related studies.
The library was inaugurated on August 07, 2007 with the assistance of its partners: the Dutch Carmel Province, the Philippine Carmel Commissariat, Stichting Porticus, the Sisters of Julie Postel, the Titus Brandsma Media Center, and other individual and private book donors.
