This paper is about salvation. The starting point, however, is the experience of pain and suffering. “Why the strange connection?”, one might ask. Offhand, one can say that pain and suffering are organic concerns for Christians because they relate with the savior Jesus Christ whose saving activity involves suffering and death on the cross. Christians believe that the Paschal mystery of Jesus has a salvific meaning which is freely and universally offered to humanity and creation.
